Date & Time:

Tuesday 4 July 2017 at 11:45am-Wednesday 5 July 2017 at 4:30pm

The University of Queensland’s Global Change Institute (GCI) and Advanced Water Management Centre (AWMC) will jointly host the fourth annual UQ Water Forum on 4-5 July 2017.

This year's theme is: The Water Challenge: How can Australia step up?

The UQ Water Forum, a two-day, free event, seeks to foster collaboration, interaction and integration of water research within and beyond The University of Queensland towards interdisciplinary understanding.

Last year's forum attracted 36 speakers and more than 100 participants each day from across faculties and five institutes, as well as representatives from government, industry and NGOs.

The forum program will begin with an opening panel session by our thought-leaders on 4 July from 1.00 pm. Our industry partners will also be invited to provide their perspectives.

This year's program will conclude with the “Creating Champions” session. This session will begin with a UQ student showcase and then our adjunct professors, to serve as role models, will join the students on the panel to discuss:

  • What it means to be a water champion at all levels
  • Hypothesise on the industry of the Future, specifically in relation to your respective current role; and
  • What are the skills needed to address the emerging challenges for water
  • This year’s forum will again include the showcase of UQ water research through lightning presentations around resolving water challenges within current and future research. Apart from the opening session, we will introduce a new dimension this year to include matching presentations from end-users or adopters of research and innovation.  We would really like to showcase the pathways from research to adoption in this forum.

The forum will feature four themes:

  •  The UN Sustainable Development Goals
  •  Water and Climate Resilience
  •  Water for Productive Economies
  •  Water for Smart Cities
