Terms & Conditions
  1. Information on how to enter forms part of the terms of entry.
  2. Entry into the competition is deemed acceptance of the following terms and conditions:
  3. All entries to the competition must be the photo (i.e. the “work”) of the entrant and must not have been awarded a prize in any other photographic competition.
  4. Images that have previously been entered to GCI photo competitions are ineligible for this competition.
  5. Late, illegible or incomplete submissions (and submissions that do not meet the entrance criteria as outlined) will not be considered.
  6. The intellectual property rights, including copyright rights, to the work will remain with the photographer. The entrant will be credited wherever possible. By entering the competition, the entrant grants a worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual, non-commercial, non-exclusive royalty-free license to the Global Change Institute (“the Institute”) and The University of Queensland (“UQ”). This license includes (but is not limited to) the right to use, publish, reproduce and feature any or all aspects of the work in any of the documentation, media work and/or promotion of events by the Global Change Institute (“GCI”).
  7. It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that any images they submit have been taken with the consent of the subject and do not infringe their rights, including privacy rights, intellectual property rights, including copyright or any other rights of any person. By entering this competition, all entrants agree to hold Global Change Institute, The University of Queensland and the judging panel free and harmless of any claims, costs or expenses, including but not limited to damages, arising out of the participation in this competition or any competition-related activities and the acceptance and use, misuse or possession of any prize awarded here under.
  8. The Global Change Institute and The University of Queensland assume no responsibility for any lost submissions to the competition.
  9. The Global Change Institute reserves the right not to award a winner if none of the submissions meets the quality requirements.
  10. While entry to the competition is open to the public, any UQ staff members working directly for the UQ Global Change Institute are considered ineligible.
  11. Competition opens Monday, 2 April 2018 and ends Friday, 1 June 2018 (5.00 pm UTC+10:00 Brisbane).
  12. To enter, participants must send their own original images taken within the previous two years.
  13. To assist in the image adjudication process, participants are required to provide a max. of 200 words outlining when and where each image was taken.
  14. As well as a description for each photo, entrants must also include details such as (but not limited to) his/her first name, last name, email and a valid daytime contact telephone number.
  15. Illegible, incomprehensible and incomplete entries will be deemed invalid.
  16. The maximum number of photographs any one entrant can submit is three.
  17. A reasonable amount of post-processing is permissible for each image. However excessive 'manipulation' may render a submission ineligible.
  18. Images should be captured from ‘real life’ and not computer-generated.
  19. GCI reserves the right to use any images entered in the competition in its promotional material. Where images are used in such material every effort will be made to acknowledge the photographer in a manner considered appropriate by the Institute.
  20. An entry should not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, contract rights, or any other intellectual property rights of any third person or entity.
  21. GCI will select the best image entered, and this image will be displayed in the GCI building and on the Institute’s website: www.gci.uq.edu.au.
  22. The first prize will be judged by a panel appointed by the GCI.
  23. Each valid entrant who has entered the competition over the duration of the promotional period will be judged based on the creative merit of the image submitted. Only one valid entrant, selected by a panel of judges nominated by the GCI, will be the winner.
  24. The winner will be notified within 7 days of the determination by phone and email.
  25. The prize will be awarded to the person named in the entry. However in the event of a dispute, the prize will be awarded to the account holder of the entry mechanism used to submit their entry.
  26. GCI reserves the right to request the winner to provide proof-of-identity and/or proof-of-entry validity to claim a prize, which will be available for collection from the Global Change Institute at Building 20, Staff House Road, The University of Queensland, St Lucia 4072.
  27. Proof of identification and entry eligibility verification are at the discretion of the GCI.
  28. In the event that a winner cannot provide suitable proof, the winner will forfeit the prize in whole and no substitute will be offered.
  29. GCI reserves the right to verify the validity of entries and to disqualify any entry which, in the opinion of the Institute includes objectionable content, profanity, and potentially insulting, inflammatory or defamatory statements. The Institute also reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who tampers with the entry process, who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these Terms and Conditions or who has, in the opinion of the GCI, engaged in conduct which is fraudulent, misleading, deceptive or generally damaging to the goodwill or reputation of the University. The Institute reserves the right to disqualify a winner if it becomes aware that the winner and/or the winner's entry is of a type described in this clause.
  30. Entries must be received by 5. 00 pm Friday, 1 June 2018. The time of entry will in each case be the time the entry is received at gcicomms@uq.edu.au
  31. GCI accepts no responsibility for any late, lost or misdirected entries not received by the GCI or delays in the delivery due to technical disruptions, network congestion or for any other reason.
  32. Any entry that is made on behalf of an entrant by a third party will be invalid.
  33. The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
